Workmen’s Compensation Act, 1923

 

The Workmen’s Compensation Act, 1923 is among the earliest social security legislations in India, enacted with the purpose of making the employer liable to pay compensation to employees who are affected, or to their dependents in case of death. Compensation is payable in case of injury and accident (including certain occupational disease) arising out of and in course of employment and resulting in partial or total disablement, or death.

Compensation

Compensation in case of death ranges from Rs. 80000 to Rs. 4.56 lakh and in the case of permanent total disability from Rs. 90000 to Rs. 5.48 lakh.

The Act is equally applicable to women employees too.
